2013 Dance Goals

1. Become proficient in Balboa: Started taking the Thursday night class at 200 Grand.

2. Learn the Tranky Doo: Just a fun and challenging line-dance I've wanted to learn for a while.

3. Dance 2-3 times/week: Dancer's Den, 9:20?, LitP, FDO.

4. Get in dance shape: Since I hurt my Achilles tendon, I've lost a lot of strength in my left leg and my general health has declined simply from not having the ability to move around. My diet has also been crap. In short, I love ice-cream and hate to exercise. Not much more to say about that.

5. Attend 2-3 dance weekends: I'm signed up for Le Hotsauce, Swingin' at the Savoy, and the New Orleans Swing Dance thingamajiggy. I'm thinking about hitting Balboa Blowout in Denver, since I may be able to parlay that into a work trip. A lot of people have said that Inspiration Weekend in LA is a must-go too: http://inspirationweekend.com/. There are some other really cool local events, and if you don't have a lot of cash you can go locally, probably volunteer your way into the event, and not break the bank. Don't let lack of funds hold you back!

6. Dance 'up': Generally I feel self-conscious about dancers who are way better than I am, and shy away from them. I'm determined to put an end to this. I guess I feel like if I'm going to dance with great follows I need to be prepared to give them a nice ride so have to 'up' my dance to dance 'up'. :0)

7. On the dance floor, I want to focus on connection and musicality. I feel like I sometimes zone out while I'm dancing and really lose connection in a bad way, which I don't understand. I love dancing and it seems odd to be out there not 'connected' so I feel there is something underlying that which I need to unravel. Actually, blues dancing can help with this, so hoping to get out for some of this.

Musicality because I want to be able to better respond to what I'm hearing. I've started reading about the music, understanding more of the structure, and ultimately I'd like to figure out what I like, and build a collection  of music that I can share with other dancers.
